Dancing Queen

Saturday morning I headed over to the Bay for breakfast following the 5km Challenge. Had a lovely time and met (amongst others) Belinda and Aunty Karin.

Sunday's focus was my left ITB. I spent about 2 hours on the dancefloor on Saturday night and have since discovered that my ITB doesn't appreciate me dancing for hours in high heels.

Monday: Ran (well slow jog actually) for 30mins on grass round and round the local oval. Boring. I felt heavy and lethargic. Blah. It was very much a mental and physical struggle today. Couldn't even be bothered counting laps or monitoring lap times. A part of me thought that I was being too conservative/scared/chicken in deciding not to do the CR challenge on Saturday. Today's run however confirmed that my decision was the right one. ITB felt fine after lots of TLC yesterday. However there was a slight twinge in my right shin at the start and after I finished and I can't shake my cough at the moment.

I will stop whinging now, think "Zen Jen" and appreciate the fact that I can run.

ZJ - this is just a tiny blip on your running radar.
Someone wise once said to me (Oh yes, I think it was you) to take it easy and look at the long term goal. You're doing fine!

Sounds like you are on the right track, keep icing the shins!
Well done!

I still ice my shins some days when I feel an occasional twinge...also the quality of the shoes--and how worn out the shoes are--is a major factor in beating injuries.

Use cycling, running on grass, and trail running in the bush or along the beach (anything is better than concrete, and there are a lot of surfaces with less impact than bitumen.), plus the icing to keep the shins at bay, plus check the shoes. I used Voltaren to get through a race last year, but with lots of rest from running and patience I am not having much hassle this year. Persist and be patient and you'll probably be running PB's for 5k before long.
