Another one of those rollercoaster weeks. 2 months today until I fly out for Nepal :-)
Struggled mentally earlier in the week. I allowed myself to dwell on the negative thoughts that I was having about Six Foot & my recalcitrant hip, rather than accept them as part of the journey & let them wash over me (thanks Owly).
I did 3 x upper body weights sessions during the week and my shoulders haven't forgiven me yet. Let's just say that I'm still paying for not doing much weights over the last few weeks....
After a week off I set off to do my long run today. Saint Andrew & Easy Tiger want me to stay off hills for the time being (!) so I picked a reasonably flat 12k loop near home with the intention of running it twice. I really struggled today, mentally & physically. Unfortunately my hip hasn't improved during the week off. Not even doing a a door-knock at 7.44am to find out who owned the sheep that had escaped from a paddock & were now running down the road ahead of me did little to improve my mood. I pulled the pin after 15.36k in 1:48:44 (aver 7:04min/k) . More time off running is needed me thinks - might be time to dust the cobwebs off my bike...
MTD: 15.36k

wow! runaway sheep - that is pretty cool :)
i'm glad that you are feeling better about the hip (nearly wrote sheep again, think i have a fixation, i blame miners...). With my own training hiccup I keep remembering a story from the Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama, the upshot of which is the question 'is it good or is it bad? who knows, it just is'. Can't argue with that sort of logic!
Take a photo 'with cobwebs' first to show Miners ;)
CJ will be wearing steel capped boots next Saturday to slow her down. The easy pace and flat early running should help you (and the hip) warm into it. Plenty of walking too if we do the hills, and options for shorter runs.
Some disappointing news there Jen, however don't get too down about it. I have just had almost 3 weeks off and made a comeback today which I thought would be a disaster. It turned out pretty good.
Certainly get on the bike, I done quite few sessions on the home trainer and heaps of walking. Pretty boring but it seemed to help alot.
Hope the hip improves soon.
I love the positive title! Its a great idea to find something else to do like riding while you have some off running days - always helps keep me sane.
I hope the hip is feeling better this week Jen. But you do know that coffee and chocolate contain amazing rejuvenating powers - especially if shared with great company (can't wait to see you next weekend!).
Hope a rest from the hills is what the hip needs Jen.
Sheep really are stupid. They should have escaped whilst it was still dark. *rolls eyes*
Hope the hip sorts itself out Jen. Sheep they just act like sheep. Get the kelpie out to keep them in line.
I think that telling someone their sheep had escaped would brighten anyone's day (except maybe the sheep's owners!).
Y'know Jen, one day everything will align and we'll be healthy coincident with a major race...

Sounds like a good plan Jen ;-)
Stupid English language where we use the same word for both singular and plural at times. Reading your post I thought it was one sheep but maybe it was several sheep. You know wondering about this will keep me away ... unless I start counting them :-)
So, sheep or sheep?
Oh, and good luck with the hip. CJ has the perfect remedy. And what Shane said is so true, he was flying today after all that time off.
I meant keep me awake!
Hips are a pain in the behind :) Mine seemed to not make much progress for a few weeks and then suddenly improved so I think you'll be due for a sudden improvement in the next few days..fingers crossed.
how did you GET cobwebs on the bike in the first place >:( *grumble*
might have been the week for mental weakness - seems to have seeped into EVERYONE!
