I have been completely overwhelmed & humbled by the responses to my last post. Some made me laugh; others reduced me to tears but I can't begin to say how much I appreciated them. I can't thank you all enough.
And Clairie, I have accepted the 'great abs challenge', However I won't be posting 'progress' photos. You'll have to take my word for it ;-)
I have two words to describe my weekend so far - Bundaberg Rum. Nectar of the gods if you ask me. Not particularly conducive to the 'great abs challenge' but c'est la vie. The silver lining on my dark cloud of injury has been that I've been able to stay up late drinking rum and/or dancing on both Friday and Saturday nights without having to worry about dragging my tired butt out of bed to go for a run :-) I'm a bit shattered this morning, though for different reasons from Friday ;-)
Saturday 12 November - abs by Satan
Activity: weights with Satan + 30mins stretching
Time: 11am
Mood/energy: high (might have been thanks to all that sugar...)
Satan had a really tough largely abs/core session lined up today - a circuit of:
* lat pulldowns
* single leg hamstring curls using the swiss ball
* crunches
* jack knives (L3),
repeated 4 times. The jack knives are a killer. Clairie, I've also told Satan about the 'great abs challenge' - a glint suddenly appeared in her eyes and she started rubbing her hands together with glee....Yikes. Now I'm scared ;-)
Sunday 13 November - maybe a swim, then again maybe not..
A sleep-in this morning. 30mins of stretching later this afternoon and maybe a swim....we'll see.
The week ahead -
Not much variety in the program this week thanks to my hips (both) and knee (RH) being sore but hopefully they will settle down soon so I can start walking and spinning....
Monday: Satan + pilates
Tuesday: swim
Wednesday: Satan + pilates
Thursday: swim
Friday: weights
Saturday: swim
Sunday: rest day
+ (needless to say) lots of stretching!

Glad to hear you have enjoyed yourself for the last couple of nights Jen.
23 comments must be just about a CR blog record on your last post....
Don't be lazy - get out and do that swim :-)
Excuse me Miss Jen, did you say DANCING? Was there something about 'resting' your ITB that you didn't quite understand?
Seriously, I'm glad you let your hair down and had a good time. Now, hit the pool!
Good on your for taking up the challenge.
BTW - I do believe Belly Dancing does wonders so just think all Sat night you were in training!!!
I went back in to your blog to see when and how this injury came to you.. I kept thinking of you because of what you wrote about walking in a ridiculus way, which I do so. It has no sense to be able to run for 2 hours if after you won't be able to "walk".
I have to learn more about injuries.
Hello Jen
I know from personal experience how soul destroying injury can be. I also know how hard it is to get better and get back to running.
I am impressed by your courage but am also a bit concerned about your goals for next year.
They certainly are impressive and I agree that seting goals gives your training motivation and focus. But I am worried that they are too big too soon.
My advice would be to concentrate on getting better and achieving fabulous abs. Set some small goals and work towards them. Then go for the big stuff when you are 100%.
I am far from an expert and I hope I am not out of line in offering this advice.
Good luck Jen. I am sure you will come back stronger, and more importantly wiser, than before.

No - you've lost a fan here I'm afraid. Bundaberg rum is the devil's drink, brought to the earthrealm for the sole purpose of destroying innocent souls
... but Bundaberg Ginger beer is really nice... :-)
