Watched Murderball last night; a doco on wheelchair rugby. I'd highly recommend it - funny, insightful and v. inspiring. Reminded me that one silly ITB is nothing in the scheme of things...
Activity: (LSD) swim
Time: 10am
Duration: 50mins
Back to North Sydney Olympic Pool today for my LSD swim. After a sleep-in and a piece of toast (I was - as always - hungry), Mr Jen_runs dropped me at the pool. I once again proved that I can't pace myself, whether on land or in water. Did my first 4 laps way too fast and paid for it during the next 36 laps. For once, I was glad that my lane got rather busy - it forced me to slow down to a pace appropriate for an LSD swim.
Once I finished, I grabbed a coffee and chocolate friand (yum!) from the cafe, sat in the shade overlooking the pool and read my book (The White Earth by Andrew McGahan) until Mr Jen arrived to pick me up. Lovely way to start the day.
Summary: 50mins (approx); 2,000m
WTD: 4.4kms
MTD: 6.65kms
This week - had an extra rest day but c'est la vie - was still a good week of training. The way my knee pulled up after my lower body session with Satan on Thursday was particularly pleasing:
3 x Swims (total 4.4kms)
2 x weights sessions with Satan
The week ahead - aside from lots of sleeping, reading, eating and drinking the plan is as follows:
Monday: 1 hour session with Satan (!)
Tuesday: swim (30mins)
Wednesday: weights
Thursday: swim (40mins) + walk
Friday: swim (40mins)
Saturday: rest
Sunday: swim (50mins)

Enjoy your holiday Jen! White Earth is a good book for holiday reading, although it won't last you the week I'm sure!
I don't think any of us want to accept that this is really how slow I can swim for 1K.
That's why I've started doing sets of 100m at 2:30. You just swim 100m, and you start the next one 2 and a half minutes later. Repeat 20 times and thar be your workout. Pick a distance, time and number of reps that reflects what you want to achieve.
Just a thought..
Cheers,
Ben
I'm tired just reading about all the swimming you do! I wish I could swim that well! Thanks for your very kind comments, by the way.
Nice one Miss Jen! I could think of a lot worse ways to spend a Sunday in Sydney! Has it stopped raining up there yet?
That sounds like a really lovely way to start the day Jen. I hope the rest of your holiday is as enjoyable!
*groan* my holidays were literally that....now here is another person who is using their time valuably to keep in shape. I envy that.
Sloth and gluttony here wishes that I had done a few more runs, swims, walks etc during the hols but oh well.
Certainly sounds like you are getting into the swim swing of things Jen, does amazing things for the arms heh.
Enjoy the rest of the 9 days!!
Wow - great swim. Have a fantastic 9 days break - sounds relaxing and lovely. Make the most of it and enjoy that reading, eating and sleeping!
Gloroius way to start your holiday! We are off to Merimbula on Wednesday for 4 days (Mr CJ gets back from perth early Tuesday). Can't wait to get to the coast.
I watched Murderball on the plane on my recent trip to Singapore and also found it very inspiring and a great reminder that while things can get tough, it is nothing in overall scheme of things.
What a great way to start the hol Jen. But gees, 40 laps sounds like hard work!
By the way Andrew McGahan worked with us (sorting mail of all things) for a brief time. This was just before he published Praise.
