I was tagged sometime ago by Hilda (amongst others) but I was in blog-blah land at the time so I didn't want to play....but now, here we go:
What was I doing 10 years ago?
Let’s see I was 20, in my 3rd year of university which was my first year of my (graduate) law degree. Walking 5+kms everyday and later in the year, I signed up for my first gym membership.
Five snacks I enjoy?
A question about food - easy...
* hummus
* cashews
* vegemite toast (preferably soy & linseed bread)
* brie
* protein bars
Five songs I know all the words to?
* Dancing Queen – ABBA
* Bradman – Paul Kelly
* Jack & Diane – John Mellencamp
* Bust a move – Young MC
* Angels – Robbie Williams
Five things I’d do as a millionaire
* buy my parents, brother and grandmother a new house or pay off their mortgages;
* donate money to cancer research and to Medecins Sans Frontier
* buy a unit overlooking a beach somewhere
* travel
* study something interesting like history, archaeology or literature
Five things I like doing:
* reading – I’m a bookworm
* travelling
* having dinner & catching up with my closest girlfriends
* watching sports
* did I mention reading? Oh, alright – shopping, specifically for gym/running gear :-)
Ok, onto the boring stuff ;-)
Saturday 29 January
Activity: swimming
Time: 9.15am
Duration: 35min-ish
MTD: 14.15kms
1,500m today. Much better than last Tuesday's session but still hard work for some reason.
Sunday 30 January
Activity: run/walk
Time: 9.30am
Duration: 46mins
Was getting very warm by the time I left the house this morning. One thing I've forgotten over the last 3 months is to get up early and to get my sessions done while it's reasonably cool. Oh, that and taping my headphones into ears so that they don't fall out.
The plan was to do an easy 15-20min run on the grass at my local oval with a 15mins walk to warm-up and cool down on either side of the session. In the end I ran for 16.38mins which included a walk for 1min at the 8min mark and a 30sec penalty to rescue a soccer ball for the blokes playing soccer on the oval at the time. I am really unfit - I've lost a lot of fitness over the last few months. At least I know that it will come back reasonably quickly...
Came home and iced my knee and hip straight away. My knee felt ok during the session although a little tight later in the day, most noticably when walking down stairs. The 'tightness' however is in a slightly different place on my leg than it was previously. Go figure. It's feeling pretty good now so I'll keep up the stretching and ice for the next 24 hours....
This week is going to be a big one. Start a new job tomorrow and 3 sessions with Satan this week!
Monday: Satan + 17mins on the elliptical thingy
Tuesday: run/walk (will decide on the type of session after consulting my 'adviser')
Wednesday: Satan + 15mins on the elliptical thingy
Thursday: run/walk
Friday: rest
Saturday: 7km walk with a girlfriend around the Bay (& having breakfast) in the morning followed by a session with Satan at lunch
Sunday: run/walk
and I might squeeze a swim in there somewhere depending on how my shoulders handle the triple dose of Satan...
I've just finished Sucking the Marrow out of Life by John Maclean. A really inspiring read - for those of you who don't know of him - he was hit by a truck in his early 20's and became a paraplegic and afterwards went on to finish the Hawaii Ironman event 3 times, to swim the English Channel, to sail in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race and to 'wheel' from Brisbane to Melbourne as a charity raiser which is approximately 2,000kms. It has reminded me that one lil ITB will not stop me from achieving my goals. Now, for something different I'm going to read Middlemarch by George Eliott!

Woooohooooo, yeeeeeehaaaaa and woopie great session Jen ;-)
Don't worry about the fitness - with what you have been doing it is just the run specific stuff and that will come back pretty quickly.
You like protein bars?? - I can't believe it - someone else who was tagged said that as well (GG?) Hmmm curious.......
Yay! She's back.. It won't take you long. You're still fit, just not specifically running fit.
Sunday long runs will soon be back on the agenda!
Glad you've returned from blog-blah land Jen. Hey, am I imagining it or are you on the comeback trail!
Will have to catch up next time I'm in town, been so busy this trip (bloody running!).
Absolutely your fitness will come back quickly! Your Cardio will still be there just need to regain some lost ground with your running muscle groups. I'm going to go and reserve that book at my library - thanks for the recommendation!
Jen that's wonderful - but please, please promise to be really careful!
All going well - you'll be back up to speed in no time.
Great to hear that you're back running Jen - just take it slowly. Well done. That John Maclean book sounds really inspirational. I'll have to look out for it.
Baby steps Jen, baby steps! You are getting there, just take it slowly. I will keep my fingers crossed for you - hopefully that tetchy ITB has decided to play the game and behave!
I'm heading back to the gym tomorrow - first time in 3 weeks. Oh its going to hurt - I just know it! I'm starting to miss swimming as I haven't done that for 3 weeks either because of my knee. Hopefully i can get back to that soon too.
Good luck for the new job and hope you have a great day tomorrow!
Little ditty 'bout Jack and Di-a-ane..I think I know all the words to that one too!
Oh yeah, life goes o-on, long after the thrill of living is gone.
Actually, that's pretty depressing. You are the dance-ing queen....
You're back! Cool. And taking baby steps towards..... RUNNING!!!!!
I found that as I started to manage my ITB rather than the other way around (my ITB managing me) that I'd feel the tightness in the band rather than the pain in the knee. I hope that's what you are experiencing.
Do you really mean all the words to Bradman? Wow! Isn't that about 15 minutes worth?
Cheers,
Ben
I am soooo happy for Jen! Take it easy... your fitness will come back in no time. Now just enjoy the feeling of getyting out there and the rest will follow! Now PLEASE have a little rest and stretch at the first sign of trouble :-)
Good Luck with the Job... I hope it all goes really well!
Great that your mobile again Jen. Unfit ? Join the club.
Hey good to see that I'm not the only one with deformed ears as my 'phones fall out all the time. Tape them up ? Er, more information please. :)
Good luck on the new job Jen!!
Great to see you are feeling good while running. This upcoming week sounds pretty hard take it easy and enjoy !!
Nice to read your answers, I love protein bars too, and Dancing Queen, in fact I have it on my Mp3 player and every time I listen to it I remember you!!
